Ume Tea Davis
Davis is no stranger to milk tea places, so when a new one comes to town it better stand out! Thankfully, Ume does! Fun drinks and great snack pairings make Ume a boba place that I’d visit any day of the week.
The most important part of any milk tea restaurant is of course its tea. And Ume has a number of options that you can order. I had the pleasure of trying many of their drinks and I’m happy to report that every drink was well-made. Their standard house milk tea is smooth with a nice mouth feel. It’s very easy to drink with very little bitterness from the tea. It’s a great option for anyone new to milk tea and wants to just have a solid, great tasting boba drink
If you’re looking for more unique and complex flavors, Ume has them. They have black tea latte, thai tea, oolong tea and more to select from. Those of you who enjoy these variations will appreciate that they have them here. It’s also fun to discover the different teas and taste their differences.
For those who have issues with dairy, you have the option of getting your drinks with oat milk rather than whole. It’s a great way to enjoy these drinks without lactose.
On hot days or on a day that you’re looking for something a bit more refreshing, Ume has shaken fruit teas. These teas are typically made with green tea and skip any milky element. They can be loaded up with tea jelly or aloe and tend to be sweeter than the milk teas. Of course, you can always dial down the sweetness to your liking as Ume offers sweetness adjustments to most of their drinks.
Slushes are for those who really want a blast of cold. Some of these items are available with a cheese top! But don’t worry! It’s not like you’re getting cheddar. The cheese top is a mild, frothy element that isn’t what you’d typically think of as ‘cheese’. I’d suggest giving it a taste before passing judgement. Other slushes come with non alcoholic Heineken beer as a flavoring. Pretty wild!
For hot snacks, my favorite of the bunch is the popcorn chicken. I adore popcorn chicken, but some places just don’t do it justice! Ume makes it right though. The chicken comes out hot and crispy and you can dust it with your favorite spices. Aside from the popcorn chicken you can order fries, fish balls, sesame balls, and even a sweet pumpkin dessert. It’s not a huge menu of food, but there is enough here that you can find something to pair with your drink.
My only little gripe about Ume is that despite their good-sized menu, there are some favorite classic milk tea flavors that are missing. My personal favorite milk tea is straight up taro. They have taro and mochi black tea latte, but it is far from the standard taro milk tea that is available at so many boba places around town. So if you’re looking for something you like, there’s a chance Ume may not have that for you. But be encouraged that there’s a great chance you’ll enjoy the drink you end up ordering!
