Fire Wings
Fire Wings has really made an impact on the chicken wing market as they are all over California. I first discovered Fire Wings after watching the first Deadpool movie in Elk Grove - since then I’ve been hooked. I found the wings to be uniquely flavored and prepared the way they should be - crispy, flavorful, but without any excess oil or grease feeling. Fire Wings does chicken the right way and can even be found as far out as Denver and Houston now. Talk about really making some corporate growth!
The most exciting thing about Fire Wings is their wide variety of chicken wing flavors. They can come in both wet or dry varieties, and with as many flavors as they have, there is bound to be something that appeals to your taste. My personal favorites are the mango habanero, Louisiana rub, and the lemon pepper. The Louisiana rub and lemon pepper are both dry rubs while the mango habanero is covered with a spicy sauce. If you’re not a fan of spicy food I’d say to stay away from the mango habanero as it has quite a heat level!
If you’re ordering for yourself you’ll probably get a chicken combo that comes with 6, 8, or 10 wings. I’d suggest getting 8 or 10 wings as you then have the option to pick two different flavors to try. If you’re really hungry, you can do a 5-piece add on in another flavor for an extra cost. The combos come with a drink, a dip, and fries. The menu states that you get seasoned fries, but the last couple times I went to fire wings they were out so they subbed in regular fries.
For those folks who are a bit more adventurous, the fries can be upgraded to other items such as zucchini sticks, stuffed jalapeños, mozzarella sticks, or Hawaiian rolls. All these options are nice and provide a choice for those who want something a bit different. You can even get mac and cheese or a bowl of (very garlic-y) noodles.
Other than wings, Fire Wings has chicken tenders, salads, and chicken sandwiches. It’s pretty much chicken all day here, but the different forms help diversify the menu a bit. The chicken sandwich, in particular, is of a good size and rivals any chicken sandwich you’d find at a place like Chick-fil-a or Popeye’s.
On select days (usually Monday or Tuesday) there are specials on the boneless wings. At the Davis location, each piece is $0.89 on those days. In my opinion, if you’re going to get wings at Fire Wings, do bone-in all the way as the boneless style has left me wanting. But the deal is very nice thought and a great way to give flavors you haven’t had a try.
Flavor-wise, I’ve had most presented on the menu. As a huge fan of buffalo wings, I felt that the sauce here was off. I’m sure they use some ingredients in their version of buffalo sauce that makes it different, but it didn’t hit the mark for my tastes. And many of the Asian-inspired flavors have fish sauce as an ingredient. Fish sauce is very popular in Asian countries and if you like it then you’ll probably enjoy the flavors that have it as it can be a pretty strong presence.
Fire Wings is a wonderful place to satisfy your chicken wing needs. The chicken is well-cooked and doesn’t leave you with a horrible feeling of grease in the end. Some of the flavors can be hit or miss, so just find the ones you like and go to town!

Any peanut fans in the house? Fire Wings has a peanut butter wing! It really doesn’t have the taste of peanut butter, but rather an Asian style peanut sauce you might find in a Thai restaurant. If you’re a person that doesn’t have a peanut allergy it’s worth a try!
