Ono Hawaiian BBQ
Ono Hawaiian BBQ is a chain restaurant that you’ll find in many parts of the Sacramento area. I decided to check it out and give it a taste. Long story short, the food is solid and quite good! The portions were of a nice size and the restaurant was clean. Ono is definitely a place I’d be happy to visit again!
The location that I went to was the one on Florin Road. This location is very close to 99 Ranch Market, so after you eat you can go and get your Asian grocery shopping done! What impressed me the most about this Ono location was the interior. It feels like a new restaurant would with a great dining area. It’s color tones feel modern and the seating arrangement is perfect for a restaurant its size.
Ordering is done first at the counter. Much like a fast food place, you can look at their menu on the screen and pick what you’d like to have. For the most part, Ono serves up rice plates with your choice of protein. There’s Hawaiian chicken, chicken katsu, bbq beef/pork, as well as sea food as options. I tend to order the kalbi (short ribs) every time I go. These short ribs are still on the bone and have a Korean style flavor that I really enjoy.
The protein comes on a bed of steamed veggies as well as rice and macaroni salad on the side. All of the sides are prepared well enough and compliment the protein. This plate makes for a nice lunch for a pretty reasonable deal. These plates area typically in the $10-$15 or so dollar range.
Do they have Spam masubi here? Yes they do! I mean, it’s a Hawaiian place, isn’t it?! But they also have chicken and beef masubi as well. A friend said that they tried the crab rangoons here and wasn’t a fan of them. I needed to see if he was right so for my side that’s what I had. Unfortunately, he was right. The crab rangoons weren’t the best in terms of texture or taste. If you love crab rangoons, this is a place you may want to skip that order. Just go to Panda Express, their rangoons are totally great.
Overall Ono Hawaiian BBQ is a nice restaurant to eat at. Though it’s a chain restaurant, they offer a style of food that isn’t very common in the area. I wouldn’t say that things here are spectacular in any way, but I certainly think that Ono serves its customers well.

If you’re in the mood for a little Hawaiian style food, Ono Hawaiian BBQ may just fit the bill for you. The prices are reasonable and there’s probably one nearby your location for you to try. I personally like the Florin location as it is right next to 99 Ranch Market so that I can do some shopping after my meal!
