Tto Bong Ee Korean Chicken

The restaurants at Natomas Marketplace have been somewhat of a revolving door recently. Many mainstays have closed their doors and a few have claimed them. One restaurant, Tto Bong Ee, peaked my interest as it features Korean fried chicken - something I’ve been on a kick for recently. This restaurant is located close to the Regal theater and to the left of the Mongolian BBQ place.

Tto Bong Ee is a small restaurant, but there are tables for guests to dine in. It’s a restaurant where you order at the front counter rather than having a waitress or waiter come and take your order. The menu is filled with enticing items to try. There are a number of fried chicken options as well as sides compliment the chicken nicely.

On my first visit, I ordered a half sized original fried chicken. The chicken came out perfectly fried with a gorgeous texture. They were seasoned nicely and had a very mild spice to them. The inside of the chicken was juicy and tender, just how they should be. When ordering, you have the choice to having wings, drums, or a mix. I went with wings and it was the perfect order for me as I prefer smaller pieces of chicken.

I’ve seen reviews on Yelp that complain a bit about the chicken size being too small. That’s something you might want to note if you consider coming here. The chicken pieces are on the smaller side.

I noticed that Tto Bong Ee had a cheese and ham corn dog on the menu. Corn dogs aren’t the fanciest of foods, but let me tell you - Korean corn dogs are different than the kind you get at Costco! The fry on the outside is light and crispy rather than a cake like an American style dog. The inside was filled with gooey cheese with a small sausage shaped ham residing on the stick. I loved it and if you haven’t had a Korean corn dog before, you might want to give it a try! It hits different!

Aside from the fried foods, there is traditional Korean sides to be had as well. Kimchi is available as well as jab chae (clear noodles), bi bim bap (rice, bulgogi, egg, and veggies), and tofu soups. It’s a pretty vast menu, and there is something for everyone who goes to Tto Bong Ee - even if they don’t want fried chicken.

I was very surprised at Tto Bong Ee and it is a restaurant that I think I’ll be stopping by more and more. Korean fried chicken is always excellent and Tto Bong Ee has that and more!

If you’d like to visit the restaurant, check it out at it’s Natomas or Folsom location. New places are opening up in Roseville and Elk Grove soon.
