Koi Japanese Bistro

Koi Japanese Bistro is the place to visit if you’re looking for a mix of tradition and fanciful Japanese cuisine. The restaurant is clean with a stark modern look with actual koi fish on premises! I found the service to be friendly and helpful and the overall experience was top notch.

It’s a lot of fun looking over the menu over at Koi. There are a lot of eye-catching items up for your consideration. Of course there are Japanese restaurant standards like edamame, gyoza, and karaage, but you’ll also see house made chashu & ajitama, spicy roasted garlic clams, and an ajitama scotch egg. And those are just the small plate dishes.

Continuing on through the menu you find the sushi offerings. There are the traditional rolls as well as handrolls, nigiri, and sashimi. I just wanted a taste of the rolls on my first visit so I went for an unagi roll. Unagi is eel. It may sound off putting, but eel is delicious on a sushi roll. It’s typically barbecued and served with a sweet/savory sauce that brings out a delicious flavor. It doesn’t have a fishy taste at all to it. The unagi roll is well balanced and a solid, enjoyable roll to eat and share.

California rolls may be considered bottom rung sushi by the sushi snobs out there, but I’m a sucker for them. Their basic and clean taste is something that I enjoy quite a bit. Sadly, many restaurants can be sloppy with them and don’t treat them as a ‘real’ sushi item. Well, that’s not the case at Koi. Their California roll is substantial and made with care. It was even garnished with strawberries for a splash of color. The California roll was magnificent - which just went to show me the effort Koi puts into their food.

A specialty item on the menu is the Koi salmon bomb. These ‘bombs’ come in a set of four, each set upon a spoon. I was curious as to what these were and she told me they were the most popular item on the menu. They are a house seasoned spicy crab, cucumbers, sweet potato, green onions, wrapped in salmon. They get torched and then given additional flavor with spicy garlic aioli sauce and topped with sesame soy roasted jalapenos. I was a big fan of the salmon bomb and would recommend it for anyone who enjoys the flavors of a specialty sushi roll.

I was highly impressed with Koi Japanese Bistro on my visit there. There are menu items that I must return for.

I love Koi Japanese Bistro as it gives me everything I would want from a Japanese restaurant. There are menu items that are unique to Koi, but if you’d like to have traditional dishes, they are also available! The restaurant is well kept and the staff is very friendly. Koi is a recommended restaurant for lunch and dinner!
