Raising Cane’s

Raising Cane’s has taken the area by storm recently by opening up a number of locations all around the greater Sacramento area. As of this review, there are locations in Davis, Elk Grove, and Citrus Heights with even more to come.

Raising Cane’s is all about the chicken strip. In fact, that’s pretty much all that’s on the menu! Their simple menu offers up different sizes of chicken strip baskets or a chicken sandwich - which is basically their chicken strip on a bun. So if you’re into strips, this is the place for you!

Their chicken strips are well-made. The battered crispy outside is light and crunchy with an inside that has a good portion of meat. The chicken is juicy and well-cooked. They are as you’d expect from a place that specializes in chicken strips.

Alongside the strips are crinkly fries, coleslaw, Texas toast, and their signature sauce.

The fries are decent, but they aren’t my favorite style. As with all fries, you have to eat them right away when served or else they will get flaccid and limp. And nobody likes things that are flaccid and limp!

The coleslaw comes in a small cup. It looks like a very small portion (and kind of is), but it has enough mayo in it to feel that you wouldn’t want too much more than is provided. It’s a little heavy handed and I wish it had a lighter feel to it in order to balance out the meal a bit.

The Texas toast comes in a smaller rectangular shape. It looks like it is tucked into the basket with half of the toast covered with food, but that isn’t the case. What you see is just what you get - it’s small. The toast could also use a bit more flavor - some butter or garlic on it would really give it the oomph it needs.

The best thing in the basket other than the chicken is the Cane’s sauce. This is their version of secret sauce and it’s pretty good! The flavor within has a bit more depth to it than sauces of similar ilk. This sauce and their strips make for a winning combo. In fact, just dip everything in the basket besides the coleslaw into the sauce and you’ll be good to go.

To wash everything down you can try their signature lemonade or sweet tea. Sweet tea for me is usually way too sweet, but theirs isn’t. I’m thankful for that and would happily drink it. They also have the same tea unsweetened as well. And that’s a nice touch.

When Raising Cane’s first opened up there was a line that went on and on. It would take upwards of half and hour just to get to the register. Thankfully, that’s died down a bit and you can come to Raising Cane’s without too much of a wait.

If you love chicken strips, Cane’s is the place for you!
