Mikuni

Mikuni is a well-known name when it comes to sushi in Sacramento - and with good reason. The sushi is always fresh and well-prepared with a dining environment that is unique and modern. They are the standard that sushi restaurants in Sacramento measure up to.

You’ll find a Mikuni location all around the greater Sacramento area. They have locations in downtown, Roseville, Elk Grove, Davis, and more. Each location is always abuzz with activity as guests come to dine at all hours of the day.

The menu at MIkuni is vast with a ton of delicious items to select from. If you like raw fish items, they are there. If you don’t, there are plenty of options for you as well. I would find it hard to believe that there isn’t something on the menu that would fit your fancy when dining at Mikuni.

Edamame is a traditional starting item. It’s basically a bean that you can peel and eat as an appetizer. Mikuni has two special takes on these - garlic and freaky. The garlic edamame is savory and covered with cilantro. The spicy edamame has the name freaky and has a freaky sauce that will give you a bit of a kick. It’s not super hot, but definitely not mild. It’s very good and it’s something I order whenever I go!

When looking into the rolls, there are just too many to list! These unique rolls have a ton of different items on them. Be sure to read through the menu and try something that jumps out to you. My personal favorite roll is the train wreck. It’s a large roll that has cooked eel on the top. Never had eel before? I’d suggest giving it a try! It’s one of the best items you can order at any Japanese restaurant!

For those newer to sushi or want something fully cooked, I’d suggest the Fair Oaks roll. It is a roll with tempura inside and avocado on the top. It has a mild taste that goes down smoothly. It’s simple, but perfectly made.

As for the raw fish items, I found the sushi and sashimi to be extremely fresh. Even just by looking, these items have eye appeal. And they taste as good as they look. Indeed this is the standard if you’re looking for a really good sushi restaurant in the area.

For diners who shy away from sushi, Mikuni offers a delicious pasta with olive oil and shrimp. It has a European feel to the dish and is unlike any other pasta I’ve had before. You can also order traditional ramen or hot plates like teriyaki beef or chicken.

Mikuni is an easy recommend and is a must go for any sushi or Japanese food lover. It’s a classy place with food that really sets the bar for the region. Just make sure you bring your wallet as prices here can run a little high. You know what they say… you get what you pay for!
