Pho Tasty

Vietnamese restaurants seem to come and go when it comes to Davis, but hopefully Pho Tasty is able to stick it out for the long haul. This Vietnamese restaurant serves up a decent Vietnamese meal that will Satisfy your cravings, but it’s not going to blow you away by any means. Pho Tasty offers a place where the good folks in Davis can get a decent bowl of pho without traveling way out of town to find some.

As its name implies, Pho Tasty is place to get a bowl of pho. If you’re unfamiliar with what that is, pho is a Vietnamese noodle soup that usually contains thin rice noodles and an assortment of ingredients such as beef, chicken, and sometimes seafood. It’s a perfect thing to get on a cold day and the flavors are absolutely addicting (or maybe it’s the MSG… not sure). The pho at Pho Tasty is good, but there isn’t anything unique about it. The best I can say about the pho is that it does the job of being pho and being non-offensive in taste. It’s just totally fine!

You can order your pho in various sizes according to how hungry you are, and of course you can customize your ingredients however you like… just like most pho restaurants.

My personal recommendation at Pho Tasty are the different vermicelli dishes that they have. The vermicelli at Pho Tasty is similar to the pho noodles except that it is dry and without the broth. It comes with a variety of garnishes on the top with a side of house vinaigrette. Just pick your favorite protein to top it off and you’ll be good to go. The grilled pork is an excellent choice and is tremendously flavorful. The pork is perfect with the cold noodles and is my go-to dish whenever I visit Pho Tasty. It’s so good that the owners should seriously consider changing the name to Vermicelli Tasty instead as this dish is better than their pho.

Similar to the vermicelli noodles are their spring rolls. The springs rolls are an appetizer, and are pretty much the vermicelli dish in a wrap. The rolls come with a peanut sauce as an accompaniment. And speaking of peanuts, Vietnamese dishes often contain them, so if you have any allergy, watch out and make sure you tell the server before ordering.

If you’re in the mood for a sandwich rather than noodles, Pho Tasty does have banh mis on the menu. A banh mi is a Vietnamese sandwich filled with jalepenos, pickled carrots, daikon, cilantro, and the protein of your choice. The bread used is a French style baguette with a nice crunchy exterior. The flavors are unique to this style of sandwich and if you haven’t tried one, they are certainly worth a go. The banh mi at Pho Tasty are a good example of a traditional banh mi.

Rounding out the menu at Pho Tasty are their appetizers, clay pots, and soups. Pho Tasty does have an extensive menu of items so you can definitely have a nice variety to your meal.

Pho Tasty is a solid choice for Vietnamese food in Davis, but it certainly isn’t a place you’d go out of your way for. It’s a nice place for locals to get some decent Vietnamese food.

There is a lot more than just pho on the menu. The vermicelli and spring rolls are definite stand outs.
