Kuji Asian Grill

In a town known for its Mexican food, Kuji Asian Grill makes its mark as a great place to dine in Woodland. This small restaurant may fall under the radar as it is located in a shopping plaza away from some of the more frequented areas of town. It’s worth finding though as the food here is delicious and well prepared.

Kuji Asian Grill combines a heavy dose of Korean and Hawaiian influences in their food. Korean favorites such as japchae, bulgogi, and kalbi (short ribs) can be found here alongside Hawaiian favorites like spam masubi and mac salad. I’d say the influence runs heavier towards the Korean side of things, but the Hawaiian side is evident in the food throughout the menu.

The plate lunches at Kuji are a complete meal that comes with sides. My favorite of them all are the kalbi short ribs. These ribs are on the bone and come straight off the grill. I love the char that is on them as well as the seasoning. I could have this every single day and be very happy about it. Other plate lunches you can order include spicy pork, Korean grilled chicken, salmon, garlic shrimp, chicken katsu, tofu, and bulgogi japchae. The sides include rice, potato mac salad, kimchee, and Korean pickles.

The meal is incredibly delicious and I found myself wanting even more of the sides. The potato mac salad in particular was great as it was garnished with bacon to really send the flavors over the top.

If you’re still hungry, or want to try some more of the offerings here, there are a number of sides you can order. A great way to fill up is with the chicken or Spam masubi. Masubi is similar to that of a sushi roll, except that it is a bit bigger. It’s basically meat and rice wrapped with a seaweed cover. These are a Hawaiian classic that is enjoyed by many.

If you’re into the char of meat like I am, the chicken wings are a great choice as well. It comes with 7 pieces with your choice of either kalbi sauce or spicy.

The final items on the menu are called Kuji’s Favorites. These items stand alone. Here you’ll find their bibimbap, bibimkooksoo, tataki salad, chicken sandwich, poke bowl, and pork belly salad. Like the plate lunches, these dishes are prepared with the utmost care and are packed with delicious flavors that you won’t find anywhere else in town!

Kuji Asian Grill is a great place for some Asian tastes in Woodland. If you’re in town, Kuji is certainly a restaurant that you need to try!
