Nick the Greek
When I think of Greek eateries, they are usually privately owned, mom and pop style places. Nick the Greek, however, brings a more modern flair to this style of food. It’s a northern California food chain that has made its way to the greater Sacramento area. There are locations in Elk Grove, Roseville, and Davis with possibly more to come in the future!
When I think of Greek and Mediterranean food, my mind instantly goes to gyros and strong flavors like feta cheese and tzatziki sauce - and these items are definitely on offer here. The flavors are bright and savory. If you haven’t had this type of food before, I’d seriously advise you to give it a try.
Gyros are one of the most famous food items you can order at a Greek restaurant. These are wraps with your choice of protein (chicken, beef, pork, lamb, or falafel) in it. The wrap is usually pita bread and there are plenty of veggies included inside. I love it with tzatziki sauce as it adds that signature Mediterranean taste that is so fresh.
My personal go-to item at Nick the Greek is the chicken souvlaki. The chicken comes on a skewer with the perfect amount of char on it. It’s served with your choice of rice or fries. I typically order it with rice as the fries are so good I get an extra order of them on the side. It’s a really satisfying meal!
Nick’s Fries are a special item on the menu that is totally loaded with Mediterranean flavors and is great for a group to share. It is a large size and comes with feta, garlic, spicy yogurt, your choice of protein, and topped with green onions. It’s an addicting item but will leave you with a heavy garlicy breath when you’re all done with it.
For dessert, you can order their Greek yogurt. I would be a bit weary of it as Greek yogurt may not be a taste for everyone. Greek yogurt isn’t sweet and smooth like other similar desserts. It has a strong tangy taste that takes a bit of getting used to. It’s not that sweet unless you add honey and other sweet bits into it. The Greek yogurt portion is pretty big so make sure you really want it before you order it!
Nick the Greek is a fine addition to the local restaurant scene. Though it is a chain restaurant, the food you get here is unique and not typical of food you usually find widely available in this region. Check out the location closest to you!

Wonderfully fresh flavors compliment the beef, chicken, lamb, and falafel that you can order from the menu. Whether it’s a rice plate or wrapped in a pita, the food here tastes great and is worth a try - especially if you’re new to Mediterranean cuisine.
