Mochinut
Mochinut is an Asian chain that serves up mochi donuts and other snack foods. The one in Davis specializes in mochi donuts, corndogs, and even has a T% boba cafe in it. It’s a great little place to fill your snacking needs between meals.
The main draw for me at Mochinut were the corndogs. These are the Korean style dogs that have a very crunchy exterior made with rice. There are a number of variations available including ramen and potato on the outside. The inside is your choice of either cheese, sausage, or half of both.
The corndogs here were very well made and enjoyable to eat. Each dog came in its own little box making the experience feel a little more glamorous… but at the cost of more packaging.
The dogs are made to order and can take a while before coming out to you. I’d say the wait time is somewhere in the 15-20 minute range if ordering a corndog because they are made when ordered. That being said, the dogs come out hot and fresh. If you order it with cheese inside, you’ll get a really gooey and cheesy experience similar to that of pulling a hot slice of pizza off.
If you’re a fan of savory food items, these corndogs are great. I personally love the regular dogs, but if you are hungry, the ramen and potato dogs are more filling.
If you’re more of a sweets person, the mochi donuts may be right up your alley. You’ll see all the different kinds of donuts they have through their glass stand. All the donuts are already prepared so you don’t have to wait on them like you do the corndogs.
Mochi donuts are a bouncy and soft texture that has a mouthfeel right between a cake donut and a fried donut without tasting like either of those traditional varieties. Mochinut features a variety of flavors like ube, taro, strawberry, yuzu, and more. There are a good deal of Asian style flavorings when it comes to their choices.
To wash it all down, if you’re in the Davis location, you can order from the T% menu. T% is a great boba spot and it’s awesome that their boba drinks are available here. In my opinion, T% resides in the higher quality tier when it comes to this sort of drink. It’s sure to be a popular option to those visiting Mochinut.
All ordering done here is via a computer terminal. You select what you’d like, make adjustments, and pay all without really interacting with any of the workers there. It’s certainly not very personal, but I’m sure it raises efficiency a little.
