Mendocino Farms

You can’t miss Mendocino Farms on R Street - there’s a big blue and white cow right in front letting you know exactly where it’s at. This restaurant has a quirky, but hip vibe to it that blends perfectly into a great dining experience. Though it’s one in a chain of restaurants, it has a feel that is totally local. It’s definitely worth a visit if you’re into fresh and healthier takes on food.

I guess you could call Mendocino Farms a sandwich place… but it’s really a LOT more than that. There are a ton of sandwich options, but there’s also a ton of other options to get as well. But since it literally says ‘sandwich market’ under the name, let’s begin with those.

The Sandwiches at Mendocino Farms are all of high quality and are different than any you’d find at other sandwich places. One example of this is their “Not So Fried” Chicken sandwich. This sandwich comes with shaved, roasted chicken breast topped with Mendo’s krispies, herb aioli, mustard pickle slaw, tomatoes, pickled red onions all on a toasted ciabatta with a side of bbq sauce. That’s a whole lot of ingredients for a chicken sandwich!

Other tasty sandwiches include a sweet heat crispy Thai chicken sandwich, a reuben, Peruvian steak, and a chimichurri steak and bacon. As you can see, these aren’t the sandwiches at your local Subway or Togo’s.

Moving away from sandwiches are their salads and bowls. Like the sandwiches, these menu items are filled with a huge variety of ingredients. Mixing all the flavors together creates an amazing taste experience. It’s also nice that the portion size of these items are enough to give you a good meal. I had the entire smoky chicken elote bowl and I was totally satisfied. My friend had the steak and shishito bowl and had to take part of it home because it was more than enough for her.

For kids who don’t have the desire to eat a complex mix of flavors, Mendocino Farms offers up kids meals. Honestly, some of these would be right up my alley! They have grilled cheddar sandwiches, chicken tenders, quesadillas, and even peanut butter and jelly!

For colder days you can select a soup to warm you up or go with the salad for a nice pairing. In fact, you can do a half sandwich, half soup combo for a really nice meal that has a little bit of both.

And to wash everything down Mendocino Farms has their own house made beverages. Select from rose lemonade, passion fruit black tea, Thai turmeric lemonade, classic lemonade, and a greens drink. You won’t find Coke or any other sodas here. It’s their freshly made juices and teas if you want something from the fountain.

I’ve enjoyed all my visits to Mendocino Farms, and the restaurant seems to be doing very well with a good deal of customers eating in and taking things to go. This restaurant is definitely worth a try as the food here is really unlike any other!

Sit inside or out - both are great options. Inside you’ll find beautiful decorations all around. There’s even a seat that looks like it’s made of grass. If dining outdoors in the evening, enjoy the beautiful overhead lights and the nice warm Sacramento evenings.
