Fixins is a beautiful restaurant with all the modern amenities. It’s located in Sacramento’s Oak Park area right next to Old Soul Coffee. The dining room is warm and inviting highlighted with beautiful lighting. The outdoor seating is equally beautiful with heating lamps for evenings that are a bit cooler in temperature. No matter where you are at Fixins, you’ll feel comfortable and ready for a delicious meal.
Because of Fixins popularity, there will probably be a little wait before you get seated. Fixins has a system in which they text you when your table is ready to go. Simply check in with the host at the front, tell them your number, and you’ll be good to go. My wait time on a Thursday evening was about 20 minutes. I’m sure that the wait time could be substantially higher during peak times and days.
If you want to have Fixins at home, they have a convenient food pick up spot right outside the main entrance. This might be the way to go if you’re trying to be socially distant or just want the food to-go.
The menu at Fixins is filled with entrees that you’ll want to try. Being a southern restaurant, of course there’s going to be fried chicken. The chicken here is fried impeccably with a juicy interior. Being both crispy and meaty make for an awesome combination. I’d say that ordering any chicken that is fried is a winning proposition here. Individual chicken pieces come with your choice of side dish. Select from collard greens with turkey necks, sweet yams, and other southern favs.
If you order a chicken sandwich, be prepared for a mouthful as these things are absolutely massive. The sandwiches are full of flavor and are loaded up with their own special sauces. These sandwiches don’t come on the cheap, but you definitely won’t go home hungry after having one. The standard side for the sandwiches are fries, which come seasoned and crispy.
Besides chicken, you can order entrees like the shrimp and grits, gumbo, or ox tail. The ox tail was particularly tender with flavor for days. You can tell the amount of care that went into the dish. There really isn’t anything that isn’t good on this menu!
When was the last time you had Kool Aid? Well, Fixins has it on the menu in all their glorious flavors. You can get red, green, pink, blue, or purple flavors of Kool Aid. The drink comes in a large mason jar perfectly sweet and ready to quench your thirst. I got red. You can never go wrong with red.
