Two Hands Corn Dogs

I’ve been looking to try some more Korean style corn dogs ever since I had the one over at Ttobongee in Natomas a few weeks back. Two Hands is a restaurant that specializes in Korean corn dogs and is relatively new to the Sacramento food scene. I had to check it out for myself so I went on a random Thursday evening and gave it a try.

To my surprise, Two Hands was packed full of people when I arrived around 7pm. I guess I’m not the only one in town looking for Korean corn dogs! It’s a small restaurant, and the place filled up fast! I’d say there were about 4 people ahead of me when I arrived with more joining in behind me shortly after.

The corn dogs you can order are completely customizable. You can get them with all cheese (mozzarella or cheddar), all sausage (regular, vegan or spicy), or half sausage and half cheese! The outer coating is also a choice you can make. The signature Two Hands dog is sprinkled with their custom seasoning and sweet ranch. There’s also dogs dusted with hot Cheetos or bean powder, covered with potato cubes, or wrapped in crispy rice puffs. All these choices will affect the texture of your corn dog drastically. If you want, Two Hands also offers the traditional American style corn dog if that’s what you’re feeling.

I found the corn dogs to be a pretty hefty meal. The dogs are a good size and can be quite a mouthful to eat. The coating gives the dogs a sizable girth and makes each corn dog feel substantial. The potato dog in particular is quite filling as the potato cubes on the outside just add a large starchy element to the meal.

Compared to my first Korean corn dog, these ones are more heavy handed in their approach. They aren’t as light and crispy as I thought they would be. I feel that the corn dogs served here would be typical of the dogs found at a carnival or fair. They are perfectly good corn dogs, but they lack a bit of refinement. Rather than being refined, these dogs are just loaded with flavor upon flavor upon texture.

Sides at Two Hands also have the same vibe as the corn dogs. They are full of flavor and a bit heavy on the palate. You can select tots, fries, or elote. Being a huge corn fan, I went with the elote. The elote is on a stick and is heavily seasoned. I’d say a bit too much in terms of the seasoning, but it is still good - particularly if you enjoy something with a spicy kick to it.

Wash everything down with their slushes or sodas. I was pleasantly surprised to see that Stubborn sodas were available here. I am a big fan of this brand as their flavors really pop. But I guess that makes sense for Two Hands as it is a place where the flavor of the food is center stage and really in your face.

Though the restaurant has a very fast food look to it, the food took a while to get out to us. I’d say it was between 20-25 minutes before getting our food after we ordered. I’m not sure if it’s just the long cook time or if it was because the establishment was so busy. In either case, just make sure you’re not in a rush if you’re coming here. Also, be advised that there is no seating inside or out of the restaurant. I ended up eating outside my car with my friends who decided to try the place out.

Overall I’d say that Two Hands is a unique restaurant in comparison to others around town. If you’re close to the restaurant, I’d give it a try if you’re curious. It’s not a place worth trekking out to try though!

It’s funny that their top picks according to them are the spicy dog and the potato dog. Why isn’t their signature Two Hands dog a top pick? Makes no sense to me at all!
