Boudin SF
Ever feel like a nice hot bowl of clam chowder? Well, if that’s you then Boudin SF is the perfect place to satisfy that need. Boudin SF is a chain of restaurants that started in San Francisco. They are famous mainly for their sourdough bread, which makes a perfect compliment to their soups, salads, and sandwiches.
I am a fan of Boudin SF because they offer items that are unique to the restaurant. Their specialty revolves around their sourdough, and everything they have is created around that fact. In fact, if you’re just wanting to pick up a great loaf of sourdough bread, you can do so as they sell it this way and also in wacky and fun shapes (like lobsters and crabs) as well!
My go-to order at Boudin SF actually isn’t the clam chowder. I usually get their turkey and havarti sandwich. It’s a very simple sandwich with turkey, havarti cheese, lettuce, and tomato on a Sourdough baguette. This might be a bit too basic for some looking for more of a ‘wow’ factor, but this clean and simple meal has been a favorite of mine for years.
When I do order the clam chowder, though, I will definitely get it in a bread bowl. It’a a little more expensive than in a cup, but the bread bowl is totally worth it. The combination of the sourdough bread and hot clam chowder is perfect - a match made in heaven! The bread bowl is cut in a way that you get the entire top and inside as one piece. It’s great to just tear pieces off and dip it into the chowder. When the chowder is all done, and if you’re still hungry, you can then eat the bowl that has been soaked with chowder as well. It’s a filling meal that will leave you full!
More recently, Boudin SF has added more and more items to their menu. Burgers are now available to order and they are nicely done. I wouldn’t say there is anything particularly special or different about these burgers, but they are tasty and offer a great addition to the menu if you want something other than the chowder or sandwiches.
Similar to the hamburgers, hot sandwiches like grilled cheese variations are available. One in particular - the brie with apples and fig jam sandwich - surprised me with how tasty it was. This particular item is worth a try as it is a very unique spin on the traditional grilled cheese sandwich.
The Boudin locations that I have been to have all been well furnished and have a comfortable dining area to eat int. I did, however, find that the Boudin SF in Vacaville to have especially exceptional service. The managers there were very attentive and went over and above to make sure their guests were enjoying their experience - so big shout-out to that particular location.
Boudin SF locations aren’t everywhere, but there should be one that isn’t too far away from you if you’re in the Sacramento area. If you haven’t been to Boudin SF, give it a try as it is unique with its food offerings - a real taste of San Francisco!
