Tommy J’s Grill & Catering/Froggy’s
Recently voted the best burgers in Davis… and I can understand why. The burgers here are big, juicy, and cooked perfectly. The are many burgers on the menu that you’ll find one that you’ll want no matter what you’re craving. Each one is packed with flavor bite after bite. Tommy J’s is 100% worth the visit if you are a fan of hamburgers.
Tommy J’s/Froggy’s is on the corner of G and 2nd Street in downtown Davis. They have been around for a while and offer Davis residents delicious food as well as a bar. The restaurant itself is reminiscent of a well-loved diner with a decent amount of seating. Because of its popularity though, the dining area can get a bit cramped during busy hours. Because of the COVID pandemic, they do now have some outdoor seating that expands the eating area by quite a bit. It’s a very nice sectioned off area that is great to eat at on a beautiful Davis evening. I’d definitely choose to sit outside when the weather’s nice.
On my most recent visit, ordering was done at the bar area rather than at the dining tables. There’s a large menu to look at to see what you’d like. You can also scan the QR codes located at the individual tables as well.
As I mentioned, if you’re in the mood for a burger, this is the place to be. These massive burgers are 1/2 pounders and are loaded. They recently won a contest trying to find the best burger in Davis. It featured a bacon jam with blue cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onion, and a delicious spread that added just a bit of heat. This burger was an amazing treat that hit the spot. It touched on so many taste notes and really blended together in a surprising way.
Another favorite burger of mine is the cajon burger that features pepperjack cheese, bacon, and cajun may. If you love a bit of spice in your life, this is the one to get.
If you’d prefer chicken over beef or if you’d like a sandwich instead of a burger, you’re in luck. The chicken sandwiches are just as high quality as their burgers, and their sandwiches such as the Philly and Reuben are also extremely well made. You really can’t go wrong ordering any of these items. Finish off the meal with fries or a salad and you’ll leave one happy customer!
Tommy J’s/Froggy’s is an easy recommendation from me. The food and service is top quality, and this restaurant is right at the top of the best places to eat in Davis.

If you’re a vegetarian, my review of Tommy J’s might sound as if there is nothing for you. That totally isn’t the case! Tommy J’s has vegetarian options in the form of delicious salads as well as alternative meat burgers.
