Thai Canteen
Thai Canteen has long been one of my personal favorite Thai places to eat at. It’s cozy atmosphere as well as very reasonable prices keep me coming back for their delicious Thai dishes. It was the restaurant that got me hooked on Thai cuisine and I would recommend coming here any day of the week!
Located in downtown Davis, Thai Canteen has a nice modern vibe to it. The restaurant features both indoor and outdoor seating areas. The outdoor area is a built out patio that is off the sidewalk and a pretty large space for many diners to enjoy. It’s a great choice if you love outdoor dining. The inside space has table seating with two notable places to sit at. One is their large communal table across from the bar and cashier. If you have a very large group you could take this table over and have a place for everyone. On the opposite end of the spectrum, there’s this little tucked away table in the front corner of the restaurant near the windows. It’s enough for a few people max. If you’d like to just have your own little place, that’s the table for you!
I have three go-to dishes whenever I hit up Thai Canteen and it’s always a tough choice when I have to think about which one I want. The first is the pork belly over rice. This dish combines savory pork belly and Chinese broccoli in a delicious sauce. This classic meat and veggie combo hits an amazingly balanced note. If you’re just stepping into this type of cuisine, this is a great dish to start with.
The classic pad thai is also a stand out dish for me. Pad thai is a noodle dish that mixes sweet, savory, and sour tastes together in a blend that really tantalizes the taste buds. The pad thai at Thai Canteen is excellent and is a dish that I really compare other versions of it to.
Lastly is the green curry. Like the pad thai, this curry dish is one that I use to compare with others. The green curry at Thai Canteen has just the right spice level mixed with the creamy curry over rice. I’m always wishing there was more when I finish the dish. Give this one a try if you like a little spice in your life. The standard version is always perfect for me, but if you’re really adventurous you can up the heat level.
If you find yourself in Davis, I would highly recommend Thai Canteen as a place to dine at. Its popularity is well-deserved and is a restaurant you’ll see me frequenting often!

Great pricing and very tasty dishes is really the prefect combination. Thai Canteen nails it on both fronts. Give them a visit and enjoy some delicious Thai food.
