Smashburger is a chain of burger restaurants that you’ll find scattered around the greater Sacramento area. Originally from Denver, CO, these restaurants have made their way across the United States. What sets them apart is their cooking process where they literally smash their meat onto a hot, seasoned grill. Smashburger certainly does elevate their food items above what you can find at a regular fast food place and is worth a visit if you are a fan of the burgers and fry genre!
The Smashburger location I visited in Sacramento is located near Arden Mall. The location is clean and modern with a beautiful depiction of the Tower Bridge on the back wall. There is ample space inside the restaurant with booths, tables, bar-style seating as well as outdoor tables. Ordering is simple as you walk up to the counter you can look at the ordering screens and select the items you’d like. If you’re eating in, you get a number for your table and the food is brought over to you. For those who pick up their food, there are cubbies that store the food for you until you get there.
The food at Smashburger is delicious and a cut above fast food restaurants and even restaurants of similar ilk! The most direct comparison I can make is to Habit Burger. I enjoy Habit, but I would much rather go to Smashburger.
The burgers are made with 100% certified angus beef and come in single or double varieties. The meat is seasoned very nicely and tasty. The burger toppings are fresh and add a great deal of flavor to the burger. I felt that each part of the burger was of the highest quality with no part dragging the sandwich down. I went for the California burger - which features a multi-grain bun - but I still enjoyed it to my surprise. I’m usually not a fan of this style bun, but somehow the good people over at Smashburger got it to work. It was pillow-y and soft and easy to eat.
The Smash Fries were a revelation. So many times the specialty fries at places go over the top with their toppings and flavors. That’s not the case with the Smash Fries. These fries are seasoned carefully with garlic, rosemary, and olive oil. It’s simple, but absolutely delicious. Add in their special homemade ketchup and you have a perfect side to go with the burger.
Speaking of sides, you can actually get fried brussels sprouts here! The sprouts are crunchy and flavored with garlic and spices. If you want something a bit different than fries, this is a great option. This is not an item that you can find at other restaurants. It’s pretty awesome that Smashburger has something like this on the menu.
Aside from beef, you can also order chicken sandwiches and tenders. As good as the beef is, the chicken equals it. The tenders are juicy and crispy with the exact right ratio of meat and crunchy exterior. Grab a cup of smash sauce and go to town!
Smashburger is a place that does things right and I’m sure any burger fan will enjoy coming here for a meal. I know I’ll certainly come back as I am a huge fan of this franchise. Find a location near you and see what all the fuss is about!

There’s a lot to like about Smashburger. Whether you want chicken or beef, both are great options. I hope more franchises come to Sacramento because this is a quality franchise that is worth frequenting.
