Roc & Sol Virtual Diner
Roc & Sol Virtual Diner is a place that is truly unique in Sacramento. It’s a diner, but a place that hosts e-sports competitions and events. When you enter the restaurant you’ll immediately see video screens all over the place along with modern lighting and local art on the walls. You’ll also notice the remnants of what I can only assume was the diner that came before this restaurant. It’s a really eclectic mix of elements that provides a flair that is like nothing else in town.
Roc & Sol serves up food that you would expect to see at a diner (such as Denny’s or IHOP). They have a menu that includes a variety of breakfast items that are on offer all day as well as lunch and dinner items. If you’re in the mood, they also have a drink menu that features what they call ‘simple cocktails’.
All the breakfast items I saw pictures of on Yelp and online looked fabulous. The waffles and pancakes were dusted with powdered sugar and covered with fresh fruit. I could practically imagine the taste of these items by their photo alone, so I decided to go a different route. I went with the meatloaf - an item that you’d typically pick for dinner. Meatloaf is certainly a diner item, but it’s not something you really see on menus nowadays. The one other time I had meatloaf at a restaurant was many years ago - and I distinctly remember how terrible it was.
The meatloaf at Roc & Sol was actually very nice. It came with 2 different sauces on the top that provided distinctly different tastes. The meatloaf also contained some spicy sausage as a part of the combination of meats inside. The sausage gave the meatloaf a hint of heat that was very welcome. It came plated with soft and creamy mashed potatoes and some veg. Overall the meatloaf was very good… and miles better than my meatloaf memory from before.
As a side order, I tried the garlic bread. The garlic bread came in two large halves and was softer than it looked on the plate. It was bursting with flavor and I really couldn’t complain about it. It looked great and tasted just as it looked.
From the meal that I had at Roc & Sol, I’d have to say that this diner brings an elevated experience in comparison to other diners. You can tell that thought and care went into both the way the food tastes and the way it is presented.
On the service side of things, the servers were very friendly and all had a diner-vibe about them. This diner really reminded me of old road trips that my family would take to far off places. We’d stop at random diners we’d find along the highway, and this was just like that… minus all the e-gaming stuff!
Speaking of e-gaming and sports, there is an entire room in the restaurant dedicated to hosting events. I haven’t heard if this aspect of the diner is in full swing yet, but the place looks ready as there are a number of gaming computers there for usage.
I think Roc & Sol Virtual Diner is a great choice to visit. It’s an experience that should feel new and fresh!

The exterior of the building is a bit on the darker side so you might not even know what it is when passing by on the street.
