Q1227

Restaurant Q1227 is located in Roseville and boasts an impressive chef. In fact, the restaurant is named after him and the numbers represent his birthday. The head chef at Q1227 is Chef Q, a renowned chef who has had a number of accomplishments including serving a former president and opening up prestigious restaurants. Chef Q is impressive, and I’d recommend that you check out Q1227’s main web page for more information about him.

Q1227 serves ‘modern comfort’ food which combines southern inspired cooking with the freshness of farm-to-fork ingredients from California. The restaurant seems to be very popular as when I went on a random Thursday early evening the place was packed! The hostess asked if we had reservations, but we didn’t. Thankfully, they had space at the bar and we were seated there. Reservations are highly recommended as the restaurant fills up fast. In fact, I was thankful we got there early as people just kept coming and coming.

The bar isn’t the best place for a nice meal, but it had to do. Next time I’ll be making a reservation for sure! Thankfully, the bartender was very kind and knowledgeable regarding the food and was helpful whenever we had menu item questions. He was great in making recommendations as well as letting us know the specifics of food items we may not have gathered from just the item name in the menu.

Speaking of the menu… it is packed with dishes that sound spectacular. And it’s the first time I’ve seen beef wellington available! I’d never had beef wellington before so I felt that I had to order it. I’ve seen it done so many times on the show Hell’s Kitchen that I had to see what the fuss was about for myself. The wellington is not cheap, and at over $70, it’s one of the priciest menu items. But I took the plunge anyways.

A beef wellington is beef that comes wrapped with a puff pastry exterior. The meat is cooked pretty rare, and apparently, getting the dish correct is very difficult to do. It’s not a hefty dish, in fact, it was a bit smaller than I thought it would be - but the flavor of the meat and the presentation of the ingredients were amazing. I thoroughly enjoyed the dish and it really did satisfy.

Also on the table were a number of shareables and appetizers. My friend who came with me wanted to order a number of smaller items to try more things from the menu.

The garlic cheese loaf is an item that surprised me quite a bit. At twenty dollars it is a lot to pay for bread, but this one was special. It comes with the entire round of bread and it is heavily seasoned on the top. The bread comes piping hot and when you open it up it releases all the steam that is still trapped inside. The balsamic dip sits at the bottom of the dish and invites you to combine all the flavors together. Though it has a simple name, the garlic cheese loaf is a great experience and perfect to share around the table.

Another favorite was the chicken-fried lobster bites. This lobster appetizer comes with a generous amount of fried lobsters. The crunch of the coating with the delicate lobster inside makes you want to keep coming back for more. I’d never seen lobster cooked this way before, and it’s a combination I’d happy have again.

These were just a few of the incredible items available at Q1227. If you’re looking for a higher-end take on southern cuisine, Q1227 is a must visit.

The only thing that would stop a visit to the restaurant is the cost of eating there. Q1227 is a higher-end restaurant and the prices reflect that. You can expect to pay between $75 and $150+ per person depending on what you order during your visit. If you can afford it, Q1227 is certainly a place worth checking out!
