Bull ‘N Mouth

De Vere’s Irish Pub was a beloved location to eat at in Davis. Sadly, the location in Davis (and in Sacramento) closed down due to the difficult business atmosphere after the pandemic. The space was vacant for a while until Bull ‘N Mouth filled it. Bull ‘N Mouth is a bar/restaurant that serves a number of different sandwiches, burgers, and salads to go with the suds that they have on tap. The vibe and look of the restaurant is similar to that of De Vere’s, so patons should find their experience familiar when they enter.

There is plenty of seating both inside and out at Bull ‘N Mouth. The outdoor section is great for those who enjoy the Davis warmth and also for those with pets. My friend who joined me for dinner at Bull ‘N Mouth brought his dog with him and we enjoyed a beautiful table outside. The restaurant is very dog friendly and delivered water in a bowl for my friend’s dog. If you’d like to sit inside, you’ll find a darker mood, but all the decor of an older pub is there.

For diners, you’ll have to order at the bar in order to get food. This is not a traditional sit-down place where a waiter comes by and takes your order. Just simply go to the bar where there are menus for you to look at and make your purchase there. You’ll be handed a number and the food will be brought to you when ready.

Bull ‘N Mouth offers a number of interesting takes on traditional bar foods. On my visit I didn’t want to stray too far into crazy land so I went with their standard Bull burger. It’s cooked to the way you like it and has a nice premium feel to it. The burgers here are juicy and filled with ingredients. Even with the little toothpick in the middle these burgers will make a bit of a mess, so make sure you have enough napkins around! I can 100% say that the flavors are there for these burgers. The taste was excellent and I’d say that they can even contend for the best burgers in Davis.

Some of the wilder burgers on the menu include a grilled cheese burger where there’s pretty much an entire grilled cheese sandwich acting as a burger bun, the Jiffy - which has peanut butter and cheese, and also a burger filled with beer cheese. These combos may be too off-the-wall for some, but I definitely want to try all the burgers here at some point.

The burgers come with either fries or a salad, but I wanted to try their fried green beans. I’d heard about these and were curious since other fried green beans I’ve had have been a disappointment. Usually fried green beans are soggy and limp… but not these! The green beans were fried to a crispy perfection and came nice and crunchy. An order of them comes on a big plate which is good enough for sharing.

If you’re not in a burger mood you could go for one of their salads, sandwiches, or a few of their other appetizers on the menu.

Judging from what I had on my visit, I would expect quality food items from anything listed. And if you’re in the mood for something harder to drink… there’s of course the full bar ready to assist you.

Bull ‘N Mouth seems to be a great new place in Davis and a restaurant worth a visit. High quality food with creative combos will make this restaurant a hit in this college town!
