Pho Momma

Pho Momma is a popular Vietnamese restaurant in Sacramento. On my visit early on Monday, the restaurant was already buzzing with more and more people arriving as I sat at my table looking at the menu. Aside from pho, Pho Momma offers its visitors a variety of spring rolls and fried appetizers. It’s not the full gamut of Vietnamese cuisine, but if you’re specifically just looking for a good bowl of pho, Pho Momma is a great choice.

When I arrived at the restaurant I was greeted by a very friendly waitress who was able to get me a seat very quickly. I found all the waitstaff to be very good and detailed. At one point one of my spoons fell over as I was trying to move some things around the table. A waitress quickly was there to help me pick it up and replace it. I definitely appreciate quick attention such as this!

Looking at the menu I knew that I wanted to try their milk tea first. Pho Momma has more of a proper milk tea menu as they have things like taro flavor, mango, and brown sugar flavors available. As with a traditional milk tea cafe, you can also add in toppings like boba, egg pudding, various jellies, and more. I ordered the taro flavor and found it to be a great tasting milk tea - one that even rivals a dedicated boba shoppe. The taro flavor was smooth and included actual bits of taro in it. Oftentimes restaurants carry milk tea, but they are done with little care. That’s not the case here. In fact, you can even order more complicated drinks such as shakes, vegan drinks, and floats.

In deciding what kind of pho to get, I first had to decide on a size. Pho Momma offers small, medium, and large sizes. I went for a medium size, but in hindsight probably could have easily had the large. It’s not that the medium is small (because it’s not). It’s just that the pho was so tasty that I should have just gotten more!

My pho contained lean beef, flank, and brisket, but there are other options like meatballs, chicken, shrimp, and tofu as well. If you’re a pho traditionalist, you’ll be happy to know that they also have fat brisket, tripe, and tendon as ingredients on their menu. The pho comes in a silver bowl accompanied by a plate of sprouts, mint, basil, lime, and some chili.

I found that the pho had a delicious flavor that is better than most pho I’ve had recently. Pho Momma certainly does have a solid offering here, and I can see why this place has so many fans.

Along with my bowl of pho, I ordered some fresh spring rolls. I was intrigued by the sizzle butter beef rolls. I imagined some amazing sizzling beef slices in the roll that would come out. Unfortunately, that really wasn’t the case. The beef was a bit lackluster in fact! The rolls were good, but the name on the menu just had my expectations through the roof.

The main attraction at Pho Momma is definitely the pho, and I’m sure that’s why everyone loves to come here. I’d be very happy to come to Pho Momma often for my pho fix - a great choice for pho lovers in Sacramento all around town!
