Oyster Bar

The Oyster Bar is located in Natomas amongst a number of other restaurants in a strip mall. As the name suggests, oysters are the highlight of the food items that you can get here. A group of friends came for a birthday party dinner, so we were able to order a number of food items to try.

Before the food, however, I’d like to mention the service at the restaurant. The wait staff that worked that night were excellent. Our party found them to be very friendly with a great deal of knowledge about them menu items. They were able to answer questions, give recommendations, and they also provided a nice little gift for the birthday girl we were celebrating. The staff there really did a great job of representing exactly what any restaurant would want as it pertains to a welcoming and friendly environment. We loved them!

Unfortunately, the food wasn’t as big of a hit as the staff was. Some items were great whereas we found other items lacking.

The biggest hits of the night were the oysters - and for a restaurant called the Oyster Bar, they certainly should be. The oysters came out fresh and presented beautifully on a bed of ice. The kind of oysters available depend on the kind they have in, but I believe that the Oyster Bar does their best to make sure their oysters are of a high quality.

Aside from the oysters, there are many seafood items on the menu. If you’re more of a land-lover, there really isn’t much to choose from. I decided on the lobster tail and wagyu burger. It was their take on surf and turf, and the combo sounded amazing. Sadly, the burger was very average and the lobster tail turned out a bit overcooked. Apparently they had a smaller sized lobster tail that day and made up for it by giving me two (which is awesome), but both were over-done and had a chewy texture that dampened the enjoyment of the dish.

My wife went with the ki ngombo, a gumbo-like soup. The soup also contained lobster, but hers was cooked perfectly, and she said it was her favorite thing within the ingredients of the soup.

So overall we found the food items to be inconsistent and at varying levels of quality. This might be a restaurant where you just have to make sure you order the right thing.

I also have to mention that while the service was excellent, the time to get our meals took quite a while. Because we had a group of friends, it was fine to have fun just catching up with conversation, but if we were looking for a quick meal, this would have been problematic.

If you’re really in the mood for some oysters (which is a bit rare in Sacramento), the Oyster Bar would be a decent choice. Just know that aside from the oysters, your enjoyment of the food could vary by a large amount.
