Outpost Burger
After many years of doing business, the owners of Hometown Taiwanese Restaurant have decided to retire. I’d been wondering who would take over their former location - turns out it’s Outpost Burger! Outpost Burger specializes in serving smashed patty burgers to its patrons. The restaurant is very large and spacious and visitors can sit inside or out.
Outpost Burger has a very simple menu that isn’t cluttered with a sea of items. Their basic offerings are burgers, fries, hotdogs, chicken, and chili. There are some other items available, but I’d say those are the main ones. Of all the items, chili is the one that intrigued me the most as many places don’t have it on their menu. So it was something I just had to give a try!
I’ll start with the burger though. I found it to be a solid burger. The smash patty is thinner than many other ‘restaurant-style’ burgers. Often those try to give the the largest and juiciest patty. The ones here are smashed up and mixed with onions. They are formed again into patties and served as flat as possible. It gives a very different eating experience that I enjoy. It’s down to earth with a nice punchy flavor packed in to all that smashed goodness.
There are many variety of burgers such as a BBQ burger, avocado burger, and so and such, but the main gist of the restaurant is the smash patty which gives them their signature sandwich.
You can order the burger in a combo deal with fries and a drink. The restaurant features Pepsi products, so if you Pepsi you’re in luck. I’m more of a Coke person myself so I was not particularly elated that they were on team blue.
The fries are of the thick steak variety. I really enjoyed the fries that I had. They came out piping hot, fresh, with a crisp outside and a pillowy inside. I’d highly recommend having the fries as fresh as possible since they’re sure to get limp and flabby quickly.
After really enjoying the burger and fry combo I decided to dig into the chili. At first glance the chili looked great. It was topped with a heap of cheese and freshly diced onions. Unfortunately, I found the chili to be way too salty. And as a salt lover, it was just too much. I also thought the ratio of ingredients in the chili were off as well. Maybe there was too much ground beef and not enough beans. In any case, I didn’t finish it and had to throw it away - which was sad because the chili was seven bucks.
I didn’t get a chance to try the hotdogs or chicken sandwiches, but the main draw at Burger Outpost are the burgers, so maybe I’ll give those other items a try on my next visit.
If you’re in the mood for a smash burger, Outpost Burger is a fine option. I certainly wouldn’t be opposed to coming back for more in the near future!
