Jollibee

Jollibee is Jolli-good! This Filipino fast food chain is what fast food should be. Their fried chicken is the top of the line, and everything else they have there is just as good. It’s no wonder the place is always packed and the drive through line is so long. If Jollibee were just a bit closer to where I live, I’d be there all the time!!!

The first thing you notice about Jollibee is the atmosphere. The restaurant is clean and has a beautiful colorful and friendly look. Many American based fast food places have gone for more of an adult look - but Jollibee retains the bright reds and yellows that really attract younger generations. They even have a statue of their mascot at the door to welcome you in.

The absolute star of this chain is their fried chicken. You have got to believe me when I say that this chicken is piping hot, super crispy, and super juicy. The quality that Jollibee puts out is a wonder in and of itself. I don’t think I’ve ever had a dry piece of chicken here. The chicken comes in two varieties - original and spicy. I think I personally enjoy the original more. Though I love spicy food, the chicken here definitely has a kick to it.

The chicken comes with lots of gravy to enjoy with it. Gravy isn’t something that most Americans associate with fried chicken, but just dunk some of that delicious chicken into the gravy and let me know what you think. I think you’ll wonder how you ever had fried chicken without it!

Besides the chicken, another favorite food at Jollibee is their spaghetti. It’s an odd menu item for a chicken place, but their spaghetti is literally world famous. It’s certainly not your high-end Italian spaghetti. Don’t even try to compare it to that. This spaghetti is a sweeter style with cheese and hotdogs in it. Yes, you heard me right… hot dogs. The spaghetti is good and I know that many people have actually grown up on Jollibee’s spaghetti. Though I enjoy it, I’m sure that there are those out there who would happily stay away from it.

Another noodle dish found at Jollibee is the palabok. Palabok is a Filipino rice noodle dish that features pork, shrimp, and eggs. This noodle dish is very much more Asian inspired and is excellent in its own right. For a more adult taste, I’d definitely choose this over the spaghetti.

The adobo rice may seem like a simple side dish, but it’s one of my favorite things to accompany my meal. Eat this with chicken and gravy and you have a complete meal. You can also supplement your meal with mashed potatoes or fries.

For dessert I’d recommend you give the mango and peach pie a try. Surprisingly, this actually might be my favorite thing here. The pie is fried and filled with the delicious fruit filling. I’ll often get more than one so I can take them home to enjoy. Get some scoops of vanilla ice cream to accompany it and you’ll be totally set.

If you’ve never been to Jollibee, it’s a must try - especially if you like fried chicken. My only wish is that there were more white meat options like wings. Primarily you’ll be feasting on thigh and drums.

There really isn’t a place like Jollibee, and I’m sad that the only Jollibee restaurants in the area are way down near Elk Grove and also in Fairfield. Both locations are equally distanced from me. Hopefully that’s not the case for you so that you can frequent the place - and I’ll be jealous!

I pretty much want to order the entire menu when I step into a Jollibee restaurant.
