Halal Fried Chicken
I am a huge fan of fried chicken, and will totally pick it for lunch anytime I can. For the most part, there aren’t very many fried chicken places around. There’s a KFC near me, and of course a little further is Popeye’s, but it’d be nice if there was a place that wasn’t so fast food-y. Halal Fried Chicken is just that. It’s a fried chicken restaurant that serves up fried chicken of better quality than any of the fast food joints, and isn’t pretentious like some of the fancier places in town either. It’s just a solid place to get your fried chicken fix!
Halal Fried Chicken is the plaza in Natomas where Buffalo Wild Wings is. It’s near a number of small/medium sized eating establishments towards the back of the plaza. There’s nothing too fancy about the restaurant that makes it stand out. When you enter, it’s just a long room with some minimal seating on the inside. Thankfully, the food is much better than the decor!
The fried chicken here comes in spicy and non-spicy, though the spicy chicken really isn’t that spicy at all. It just has a hint of some peppers and seasoning in it. The skin and outside of the chicken is really great. It has a great crispiness to it without being greasy. Sadly, I’m used to KFC’s original recipe fried chicken that has enough grease to turn your paper bag see through within seconds. The chicken here isn’t greasy like that. In fact, you can hold and handle your chicken and your hands won’t feel like you just handled grease the entire time.
The meat inside the chicken tends to be a little drier - which is actually something I prefer. As a fan of white meat, Halal Fried Chicken does a great job of keeping the meat cooked well. The meat and crispy skin go extremely well with hot sauce or ranch.
The menu at Halal Fried Chicken is actually surprisingly large. Not only does it have fried chicken as a main item, they also have hamburgers, wraps, salads, and fish items. With a name like Halal Fried Chicken, I’m not sure why anyone would go for a burger or any of the other things there, but at least they’re available if that’s something you want on your visit.
One of my favorite things about fried chicken are the sides that it comes with. Halal Fried Chicken has sides that you’d expect to see at a fried chicken place. They have coleslaw, fries of many varieties, pasta salad, and sweet corn. Upgraded sides include onion rings, mac & cheese, as well as specialty fries. It’s really nice to have so many options available.
Though I typically am a fan of coleslaw, I found it to be much too creamy. The dressing took away from the freshness of the veggies inside and it just didn’t have the right balance of flavors. I’d say stick to the hot items when it comes to the sides as they are most likely freshly made along with your chicken.
Halal Fried Chicken is a solid place to get some pretty good fried chicken. It’s a step above typical fast food places and won’t break the bank. If you’re in the area, this place is a good option to grab a meal.
