Franquette

Franquette is a beautiful cafe found in West Sacramento. It’s a bit out of the way, but this restaurant is well worth the visit. If you’re a fan of balanced flavors that sing and pop in your mouth, this is the place to go. I found the food to be excellently prepared - and for good reason! Franquette is a cafe brought to you by the same team behind Canon, a Michelin-rated restaurant. The lead chef at Franquette is Chef Elena Winks. And from what I’ve seen and tasted, she runs a tight ship!

Franquette is actually open quite late. Their stated closing time is 9pm on most days. But if you’re going to come for breakfast or brunch, make sure you do so when they serve those particular menus. Breakfast usually goes from 7am to 12pm on weekdays with brunch going from 8am to 4pm on the weekend. The breakfast menu is smaller, and contains things you can pick up and go with like their chocolate croissant. Other items, like their steel cut oats or baked ratatouille are best savored at the restaurant.

For the coffee lovers out there, there is always something for you at the coffee bar, no matter what time of day. I enjoyed a cappuccino on my visit and it had a smooth taste topped with a beautiful floral foam design - beautiful to both drink and take photos of!

The brunch menu features many of the same items that are on the smaller breakfast menu, but adds things like the croque madame. This special French sandwich is something I’ve been trying to find in the Sacramento area! I only know a a few places that serve it, and now I can come to Franquette to satisfy my craving! If you’d like a mimosa or some wine to go along with the brunch, they have a number of options that you can enjoy as well.

If you come in at any time of the day besides breakfast and lunch you’ll get to order from the all-day menu. This menu has a number of great choices.

I absolutely adored their simple bread and butter small plate. The bread came out hot, fresh, and crusty with this amazing cultured butter. I kid you not… this was the best butter I have ever had in my entire life. Yes. It was that good.

Also a great item to order is the quiche. Often times I feel that quiches are too heavy and end up weighing you down after you partake of one, but the quiche here was lighter than most.

In fact, all the items were delicately balanced in flavor so that each plate felt good to eat. Nothing was overly greasy or harsh. I have to commend the staff at Franquette for really giving their food a careful touch when making it. It really does show.

Franquette is surrounded by nice apartment buildings and is pretty close to the baseball park that the River Cats play in. If I lived there I’d definitely be going to Franquette as often as I could. If you’re ready for a delicious meal that hits all the right notes, it’s time to check out Franquette.

There are not many French cafes in Sacramento, thankfully, the ones we have - like Franquette - are of the highest quality.
