Buddha Belly Burger
Buddha Belly Burger in midtown Sacramento has to be tried to be believed. This restaurant is sensational in every aspect! From the beautiful dining area to the menu full of expertly crafted food items, Buddha Belly Burger goes all out to make vegan food appeal to everyone.
As a non-vegan, I’m always extremely skeptical about eating at vegan places. Usually the food is second rate when it comes to presentation and taste. Well, that’s not the case at Buddha Belly Burger. The food here is vibrant, freshly prepared, and has amazing eye appeal. And of course, most importantly, it tastes really, really good.
We came for a Friday lunch and decided to see what Buddha Belly Burger had to offer. With a name like that, you’d expect a menu full of vegan burgers… but that simply isn’t the case. The menu is actually stocked with different items to enjoy. Sure, burgers are one section, but there are plenty of other foods to sink your teeth into.
No matter where you look on the menu, you’ll find something great to eat. On my visit we ordered three appetizers. The maha mushrooms, buddha fries, and corn ribs.
The maha mushrooms are mushrooms that are fried tempura style. It comes with a nice aioli on the side for you to dip. I found the mushrooms to be incredibly crunchy and bursting with an earthy mushroom taste. My hand just kept going back for more and more of them. It was great to see that the oil used was just enough to get a perfect fry.
Speaking fry… the fries were superb. They are medium fries that are perfectly made. They come topped with their own house sauce and a side of ketchup. It’s much more than enough for one, so I’d suggest getting them to share. I was impressed that even a simple plate of fries was so carefully prepared for us!
And let me tell you about the corn ribs! They’re just that… corn ribs! They look like little riblets that you can pick up and eat. The corn has been cut so that you nibble on the kernels like you’d be nibbling off the meat of the pork. These have been seasoned to perfection and remind me of Mexican street corn.
For the main course we had one of the burgers and it was a very nice size. In fact, we cut it in half to save for later, but it was so good the entire burger ended up getting eaten. The burger had layers and layers of fresh ingredients that made for a satisfying meal. We chose to get broccoli on the side and they sure gave us a nice portion of it as well!
I couldn’t write this review without mentioning the drinks too. These drinks were handcrafted and had a smooth fruity flavor that tasted fresh. It helps that they were loaded with real fruit.
Buddha Belly Burger more than impressed me with what they have on offer there. The only qualm I have about the restaurant is that it is not very cheap to eat there. I came with one other person and though we did order quite a bit, it was almost $80 for just the two of us. Thankfully the quality of the food here matches the higher end price, but I do think many folks would hesitate to come because it can be a bit expensive.
