Vio Handcrafted Pastries

It’s easy to overlook the cute downtown that Vacaville has when the city has large shopping attractions like the Nut Tree and outlet stores, but downtown Vacaville is definitely worth visiting. I’d guess that most folks that are not from Vacaville have never even been to the Vacaville downtown area before. And if you haven’t… you should visit as it has a real small town vibe with locally owned shops to visit. One of the places to definitely give a try is Vio Handcrafted Pastries.

Vio has a mom and pop vibe to it that is charming and cute. Its clean interior is inviting, and it’s fun to look at the display and pick out the items you’d want to get. The restaurant has ample space to dine in and enjoy your pastries inside, and there are even some great spots to snap some photos.

Vio has a mix of both savory and sweet treats on display. The most eye catching items were the chubby churros. These are a specialty of Vio and come in many flavors. The chubby churro is a donut shaped pastry that takes a churro and turns it into a ring. It’s a fun idea that I’ve never seen before! These pastries have a dense interior that makes for a filling breakfast treat. The ube taro cream chubby churro is a great choice as the interior is filled. I’d certainly worth a try to see if this is up your alley.

My personal favorite item that I tried was the pineapple upside-down cake. This cake comes in a size that is a little larger than the diameter of a donut. It has delicious pineapple on the top and features an aromatic almond taste that kept me going back for bite after bite. This cake as a bit on the sweeter side, but Vio really did a great job here as it was moist and addictive.

Similar to the pineapple upside-down cake was the flourless chocolate cake. This item features a very rich and chocolatey cake that will definitely satisfy and chocolate craving. It’s moist and would pair very well with coffee or milk. I can see myself thinking about this one after a nice meal. I should have gotten another one of them to go!

For vegans out there, Vio has an excellent selection of pastries for you. There are cake donuts as well as mini cakes that are featured within the case. It was great to see such variety for folks who are vegan.

I didn’t get a chance to try their garlic cheese and jalapeno cheese bread, but both looked great for people who prefer something savory over something sweet. I’m always happy to see options a restaurants like this as I am one who usually prefers savory items.

If you’re looking for a nice breakfast or if you’re craving something sweet, Vio is a great locally owned business to try!
