The Waterboy
The Waterboy is not a restaurant named after an Adam Sandler movie from 1998 (great movie by the way). It’s a higher end, white tablecloth restaurant located in midtown Sacramento. It’s a very popular destination for people looking for one of the best dining experiences you can get in town.
The Waterboy is a restaurant that has been on my bucket list of places to go in Sacramento. It has a tremendously good reputation and when passing by it, I always notice that it is full of people. My wife and I finally got a chance to go on our anniversary this year; I made reservations via their website and we were in!
The atmosphere at The Waterboy is clean and a bit eclectic. It’s not a stuffy and sterile environment. The main dining room has a nice lived-in but immaculate charm to it that welcomes you in. It doesn’t have a formal feeling to it, which is something I appreciated.
The menu has an assortment of dishes starting with appetizers then going to a first course then an entree.
We started the dinner with their deviled eggs. Deviled eggs are a favorite of mine and these absolutely delivered on taste. They were smooth with mouth-filling flavor. The appetizer came with 4 portions, but I seriously could have eaten ten of them. I wish I had ten right now! They are certainly worth ordering, and I would do so again in a heartbeat.
My wife and I both chose salads for our first course. Her beet salad was full of different flavored beats in a bowl of mixed greens. My caesar featured romaine hearts, croutons, and cheese. Both salads were well-dressed and were perfect for what they were. Neither salad was pretentious or overly done.
Besides the salad the soup of the day, which was a chilled corn soup, sounded amazing so we shared it. And yes, it was amazing. The corn flavor was subtly sweet with fresh tomatoes that added some exciting zip to the dish.
For main courses, I had the pork chop and Jenn had the chicken. Both main entrees impressed us immensely. The pork chop that I had was so juicy with a nice charred top that made for a divine taste experience. I don’t think I’ve ever had a juicier pork chop than the one here. And the chicken was perfectly cooked with a delicate and crispy skin that just kept you wanting to go back for more.
Again, like the salads, these dishes were just perfectly done and exactly what we wanted. The chefs here have a deft and careful hand in creating their dishes. They should be commended!
Service at The Waterboy was excellent as well. When our server found out it was our anniversary, he brought over two glasses of complimentary drinks for us to enjoy.
It can be hard to live up to expectations, but The Waterboy certainly does and it is for sure one of the best restaurants in all of Sacramento!
