Pangaea Bier Cafe
I’ve been trying a lot of great burger restaurants lately, and Pangaea Bier Cafe is yet another amazing place to get a burger in Sacramento. I had heard that their burger has won best burger in Sacramento so I had to give it a try.
Let’s talk about the burger first.
Yes, it’s excellent. There isn’t anything about it that is odd or unusual. It’s basically a grilled chuck and brisket patty, cheddar cheese, applewood smoked bacon, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, and special house sauce on a brioche bun. All these ingredients are solid burger inclusions, but Pangaea just does it perfectly. It’s great to have an excellent burger that is what you think a burger should be. No gimmicks!
All the ingredients come together well to create a satisfying eating experience. I had it paired with a side of garlic fries and it was heavenly. The fries were extra crunchy with delicious garlic over the top. I can tell you that the entire meal disappeared rather quickly - and not because it was small.
This burger entree isn’t on the cheap side as I paid $19 for this burger. That’s a pretty steep price for most, but I can’t fault it on its taste. If you’re willing to pay a twenty spot for a burger, this is one I’d do that for.
For an appetizer, I decided to order nachos for the table. That was a great idea as the nachos were a huge hit. The appetizer was generously topped with a good helping of avocado and cheese. We had a party of five that evening and the nachos were actually the talk of the town. They complemented everyone’s meal well and were fun to eat. You can order it with meat, but with friends who don’t partake, it’s great without it still.
Speaking of items without meat, the falafel sandwich was a great choice. it came on a flatter style of bread with tomatoes and lettuce. There was some sauce on it, but getting a side of one of their sauces to add to it may help it a bit. If you’d like to do that, there is a charge for their sauces, so keep that in mind as it will add a few cents to the bill.
If you want a more substantial meal, Pangaea also has a grilled NY steak, pan seared salmon, and chorizo and mussels. These dishes would give you more of a dinner experience as most of the other food items on the menu have a pub feel to them.
And that’s really what Pangaea Bier Cafe is all about as there is a very large selection of beverages to select from. The beer selection is extraordinarily huge, so I’m sure you’ll be able to find something that fits your fancy. The Shirley Temple also looked amazing to get if you’d like a drink that doesn’t have alcohol in it.
As for the restaurant itself, the main dining area is rather small. There are benches and tables there, but on busy nights they will most likely be taken quickly. Thankfully, Pangaea offers quite a bit of outdoor seating. On our visit, there was an entire area that took up half a block with just table to sit at with beautiful lights above. In the summer this may be the perfect place to enjoy a meal. As it gets colder, though, an inside table would be best.
Pangaea Bier Cafe is located right across from iconic Gunthers, so if you’re done with your meal, some delicious ice-cream is a few steps away!
