Satori Sushi

Satori Sushi in Natomas is a Japanese restaurant that offers a wide range of items on its menu. There are many sushi rolls to select from as well as hot food items like bento boxes and noodle soups. The most distinctive feature of this establishment is that there is a Rare Tea milk tea cafe that shares the same floor space as the dine-in restaurant. It’s an interesting arrangement that works well as I love Japanese food and boba! It’s a great way to get both in one shot!

The first thing you notice about Satori Sushi is how modern and beautiful the restaurant’s interior is. The tables are a beautiful wood grain and the bar has a white marble look to it. Above are gorgeous lights that invite you in to eat. The restaurant is also large on the inside so there is plenty of space. The Rare Tea is off to the left and really doesn’t get in the way or crowd the main restaurant at all.

The food at Satori is good, but I wouldn’t go as far as to say that it can compete with the best sushi places in town. It certainly is a step below a restaurant like Mikunis in terms of freshness, presentation, and quality. It is far from being bad, but the food here lacks some precision that would really lift it to a higher status.

On my visit to Satori I ordered udon as well as a couple of sushi rolls to get the overall feel of the food.

The udon came first and I found the dish to look a bit flat. I chose the tempura udon because I love putting the tempura into the soup and having the textures mix a bit. Unfortunately, when the tempura went into the broth, the tempura coating came off and I was left with just the vegetable underneath with little floating bits of coating. Sadly, I had to enjoy the tempura separate from the udon. Individually, the udon was ok, and the tempura was average.

For rolls I tried the caterpillar roll and kobe roll. The caterpillar comes with ell and cucumber on the inside with avocado covering the outside. It appealed to me because it looked like it would be a refreshing roll with a nice creaminess from the avocado. Overall it did the job and I did enjoy eating it. The sauce on the top added to the creaminess and it very smooth. The rice was a little mushier than I’d like but other than that I’d order this roll again if given the chance.

The kobe roll isn’t named after Kobe Bryant. It’s actually a kobe beef with a garlic butter sauce over shrimp tempura and snow crab. It’s a land and sea combo! I went for this roll because I had enjoyed the beef sashimi rolls over at Kura Revolving Sushi, so I wanted to see if I got the same enjoyment here. This roll turned out to be just ok. The beef and shrimp combo muddled everything up a bit and the overall taste was a bit too much. At Kura, there was just beef and rice so it was simple. This roll had too many elements in it for my liking.

After the meal it was boba time and I was able to order a taro milk tea from Rare Tea. Rare Tea is a very solid boba place and the drink hit the spot!

Satori Sushi was an enjoyable experience. The food wasn’t the highest and most top notch out there, but they do deliver with a vast menu and options for just about any taste.
